Smart gadget is a must-have for the avid outdoorsman
Our portable speakers make great company when outdoors. The problem, though, is that after eight or ten hours of constant music streaming, both the speakers and the phone need a charge.
What’s the active outdoorsman to do in this sort of scenario? Use a charcoal fire, of course.
Here’s how: a company called Point Source Power has created a super-cheap device called VOTO that draws power directly from fire.
The magic happens via the device’s fire-activated fuel cell. When exposed to flame, oxygen converts burning carbon and hydrogen into electricity. While this is all happening in one part of the device, the rest of it sticks outside the fire and an extendable cord allows the user to charge their device from a safe distance.
Added bonus: the VOTO device doubles as a small flashlight.
